So I know you’ve been checking my blog just waiting to hear how my sales on craigslist are going. Well, I’m happy to say that I’ve officially sold one item! (And I’ve been stood up by one guy…he asked me if my Brita water pitcher smelled like stale water (weird)…to which I replied, “No, I’m smelling it right now. There is no scent to the pitcher at all.” Then he never showed. Maybe I didn’t want a guy worried about the smell of water showing up at my door anyway.)
After putting our old chandelier up for $50, I wheeled and dealed with “Steve” until we settled on $35. Really, I was just happy to get the thing out of my basement. It’s exciting to think that he was paying me to haul it away. One less thing to have to take care of when we decide to move (which won’t be anytime soon…don’t think I’m trying to hint at an upcoming move.)
Tomorrow is a big day because “Paula” is coming over her lunch break to pick up this shelf for $7. (Don’t you love the photography?? We could be professional craigslist photographers…)
And then tomorrow after 7pm, “Dennis” is coming to take this printer off my hands for $15. He is a police lieutenant and made me a slight bit nervous that I was going to say something wrong when he peppered me with questions about the functions of the printer.
Assuming that everyone follows through on their ends of the deal, my grand total (as of tomorrow evening at 7pm) should be….$57!!!
My craigslist earnings go straight into an envelope labeled “microwave fund”. We are in desperate need of a new microwave, as ours doesn’t have numbers that show up when it’s working…kind of a problem. We are also wanting to have a microwave shelf built above our stove. So, I’m looking forward to some kitchen renovations. Come on craigslist…make my dreams possible!

You totally rock, Emily! Wow, I commend you for being quite the Craig’s List saleswoman. Imagine how much money you could make just selling things here and there!! I’m still a little confused about the communication thing on Craig’s list, though. After a person e-mails you about a product you’ve listed, then what? At what point to do you switch to phone communication, etc? Is it possible for someone to come over and see an item, but then decide not to buy it?
I guess you could call me a Craig’s List virgin!
Way to go Emily! I’m enjoying reading about your progress and I admire you for cleaning things out and selling them. I should actually probably do that…I could use a little extra spending money too!
We need to get together soon.
Sarah~
I know, I was a bit confused about how it would work until I just got in there and did it. When a person emails me, most of the time they are inquiring if the item is still available. I’ve discovered that a lot of times, they never respond when I let them know that it is available. I got all excited too many times, only to be disappointed that they never got back to me! Sometimes they want to buy it, so we decide when and where to meet. I was planning on meeting them somewhere besides my house to drop it off, but after I got stood up the first time, I decided that if I’m going to be waiting for someone to get my stuff, I’d rather be doing it at my house. With “Steve”, I never talked to him in person, we only emailed and he showed up on time to pick up the item. With “Paula” and “Dennis”, I talked with them on my cell phone to determine more info about the item and directions to my house. And yes, it is possible to come to someone’s house to see an item before buying it. With the stuff I’m selling, I’ve posted several pictures of each item so they really know what they’re getting.
It really isn’t hard to do craigslist. I was nervous when I was making my first deal, but it was so easy and now I’m hooked! Let me know if you try to sell anything!
Awesome! You have inspired me to look around my garage for things to sell! We recently sold a mircrowave on craigslist for $30! I hope you were able to sell everything!
Have a great weekend!
