Tonight started innocently enough with car races in the kids’ Cozy Coupes.  Looks pretty tame, right?

As I was zooming Molly through the grass, I stepped in something nasty (thanks a lot Max) and ran over to the water spout to rinse off my foot.  The kids thought this was just about the coolest thing ever and started in with their feet, too.  And then it just got crazy.

If you want to see us in action, check out this video (and my awesome raccoon eyes):

We’ve had fun this summer, but this spontaneous splash party goes down as my favorite night so far.  There is something magical about hearing my children squeal with laughter at the simple things.  This is a moment I’ll cherish.

His kind of fun involves being outside, fighting bad guys, and making us laugh hysterically.

Her kind of fun involves getting into something she’s not supposed to, making as much noise as humanly possible, and creating a big old mess.

splish splash

These two LOVE bathtime.

They crack each other up.

When I let them, they drench the bathroom with their splashes…and little sis can splash with the best of ’em!

Here’s a video of them splashing away.  Notice how Molly is clapping as Owen’s splashing…she’s just that happy.  (I realize that her clap is a little unique…we’ve been working on the more traditional palm-to-palm clap, but Molly insists on the palm-to-wrist clap.)  And I love how you can hear Molly cracking up through the whole video…until the end when Owen’s splashing has gotten a little too intense for her liking.

goodbye arbor!

While Travis was home assisting me in caring for our little invalid, he had time to get a few projects done around the house.  We’ve been wanting to do this certain project for a while now and I am SO glad he did it.

When we bought our house, I loved the wooden arbor that covered the back patio.  It provided nice late afternoon shade and it had a kind of charm to it.  I loved hanging flower baskets on it in the spring and twinkle lights on it at night for BBQ’s.  But then the carpenter bees took it over and it became a source of stress for me.  Every time I’d take the kids in the backyard one of those big bees would dive bomb me to protect his “nest”.  (Actually his nest consisted of a hole that he’d drilled into the wood of the arbor and lived inside.)  I grew to hate being outside…so sad because we’ve collected so many fun things for the kids to do out there.  Travis and I explored our options and decided that the only thing to do was to destroy the arbor.  The wood was so rotted that there was just no saving it.  So Travis got his sledge hammer and chainsaw and went to work.  Here’s a shot from the yard at the beginning of the demolition…

And then there’s the action shot as the rotting wood is falling down around him…

And my little daddy’s girl, watching with her adoring eyes.

The finished product:

I’ve had to get used to the bareness of it.  I’m not used to looking out my kitchen window and seeing sky.  It does make our backyard feel a lot more open and I love that the bees have moved away!  We’re in the process of looking for an umbrella to shade us from some of that late afternoon/early evening sun.  It makes the kitchen so very hot and shines right in my eyes while I’m cooking.  But we’re happy to have that done!  Cross that off the list…

new posts coming soon…

Yesterday, Travis made my life 1,000 times better!  He got me a new computer!!  I’d still been using my laptop from college (and I’ve been out going on 7 years…).  It had gotten to the point that it took me about 45 minutes to check my email because the computer was so slow and would just shut down at random times.   Seriously annoying and enough to put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day.  I can’t tell you how many times I’d be working on a blog post and all of sudden the computer would die and it would be gone.  I guess Trav got tired of hearing me complain about our horrible computer…that, and the fact that Walmart had their laptops on special for $300 yesterday.

Anyway, I’m pumped about the new computer.  We’re still in the process of uploading our software for pictures and all that other stuff you have to do with new computers.  Soon I’ll have some new pictures and posts up.

I love this thing!  When I type, the words appear right away…not 10 seconds later.  Amazing!
